COLLECTIVE BENEFITS

Basics - Trying to incorporate sustainable, enjoyable, effective collective benefits and community investment into my business model has been a goal of mine since I started Attakat. I'm very excited to work together to make this dream a reality!

Here's how this works: a portion of the $2200 base coverage rate for Attakat photography services at your wedding goes towards making a bit of a difference in a wider context. You can choose to either book a featured organization wedding with a cause close to my heart or make a collective benefits donation to an organization that you feel passionate about, as long as it meets some basic requirements, which are listed in more detail below.

Featured Organization Weddings - Featured organization weddings donate $1000, or approximately half of Attakat's base coverage rates to a vetted charitable or non-profit organization that I have chosen. This $1000 donation is made by me to the featured organization in celebration of your wedding. Because this donation is made by Attakat, taxes are charged based on the full coverage amount. Featured organization weddings come with the additional perk of a $300 credit towards prints or products of your choice. Here are the current featured organization weddings and a little bit about each of the organizations they benefit.

Welcome Friend Association is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to "making our world better for the LGBTQ & allies." WFA's main project is Rainbow Camp, two weeklong camp sessions in northern Ontario for at risk LGBTQIA2++ youth, many of whom are referred through child welfare agencies. Donations help support the costs of running the two camps sessions and covering transportation costs for attendees.

Eco Justice is Canada's only national environmental law charity which provides legal support for Canadians and communities in ongoing legal claims for environmental justice and for the protection of Canada's land and natural resources from exploitation and pollution. Eco Justice has historical ties to the Sierra Club, is accredited with Imagine Canada and is 100% donor funded. Their cases have often set precedents for key environmental protections in Canada.

L'Arche is a unique, community comprised of "people who have intellectual disabilities and those who come to assist" and "share life and daytime activities together in family-like settings that are integrated into local neighbourhoods." 29 L'Arche communitIes in Canada are made up of "nearly 200 homes and workshops or day programs." L'Arche was founded by Canadian humanist, thinker, and Catholic theologian Jean Vanier in 1964 and continues to provide a model of holistic living and support for people with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones.

Dog Tales

Dog Tales is a dog and horse sanctuary near King City, Ontario. Dog Tales is at the forefront of redefining what animal sanctuaries look like and how they function and have been active in rescuing and rehoming dogs from all over the world. Dog Tales' model of rehabilitation involves creating a home-like atmosphere for the animals, complete with medical care, behaviour assessment, and obedience training. Though Dog Tales chooses to remain unregistered as a charitable organization, their positive influence and dedication to local animal welfare causes like the Tilbury 21 and others worldwide firmly establishes their charitable status.

Collective Benefits Donations - Alternatively, if you feel particularly passionate about a cause or would like to support a broader context, collective benefits donations are another awesome option for you. I ask that you make a $500 dollar donation to a charity or organization that meets some basic standards and in return, I give you a $500 discount for my photography services. The value of this discount is non-negotiable and I unfortunately cannot match higher donations to the organization of our choosing, though I readily approve of them! Charities and/or organizations eligible for the discount must meet some basic standards listed below and must be pre-approved by me via email prior to donation. Taxes will be charged based on the discounted rate and proof of donation must also be submitted before the discount is applied.

Attakat's Basic Standards and Requirements for Charitable and Non-Profit Organizations

1. Charitable and/or non-profit organizations must be registered and accredited as charitable and/or non-profit organizations or provide sufficient evidence to uphold a mandate for public good and/or collective benefits.

2. Organizations must have a mandate that supports collective benefits: public good, community development, education, the general welfare of (wo)mankind, animal and plant life, or the environment etc.

3. Organizations must have a demonstrated track record (preferably independently verified) of effectiveness and philanthropic excellence.

Give Well (UK/Global), Give.org (USA/Global), Effective Altruism Funds (UK/Global),  Charity Watch (USA), Imagine Canada (Canada), and MoneySense's The Charity 100 - 2017 (Canada) are all solid starts to evaluating organizations for quality and effectiveness based on evidence based standards.

4. Organizations cannot be a political party or a religious organization, although affiliated organizations that benefit public good and demonstrate collective benefits in a spirit of non-partisanship or ecumenicism may be eligible.

5. Kat reserves the right to refuse to collaborate on or support any organization that she feels does not meet the above standards or aligns with the core values of Attakat.

There are plenty of amazing organizations, communities, and people doing great things out there, we'll find one that works for both of us!

Limitations, Liabilities, and Legal Stuff - I am in no way formally connected to, affiliated with, nor employed by the organizations mentioned on the Attakat website. All opinions are my own. Taxes must be paid and tax benefits claimed by the party making the donation, which is why I make the donation in Attakat's name and claim them for featured organization weddings and you make the donation and are eligible to claim it on collective benefits donations. Don't forget to ask for a tax receipt when making your donation! This can also serve as proof of payment/donation to me. You enter into any and all donation agreements willingly, and discharge and hold harmless Attakat and K. Williams from any discrepancies or claims arising from your donation. You agree that your first names may be listed on the Attakat website in connection with booking a featured organization wedding, but that any other publicity or communication about collective benefits donations or other publicity about donations will be agreed to by you in writing prior to occurring.

Doing Good Better - Trying to a bit of good can actually be quite overwhelming. I've thought long and hard about how I can make the collective benefits part of my business a cornerstone and not just an afterthought. At the end of the day, I want this and all of my endeavors at Attakat to be thoughtful celebrations of people, tell good stories, and to foster the connections we make and share. I'd love to hear what you think.
